Its area is 270.534 sq. kilom. Population is about 3.800.000 people. People living in New Zealand speak English & Kiwi English.Its capital is Wellington. New Zealand is parliamentary republic. This country is consisted in UNO, GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs & Trade). In 1840 New Zealand was declared as the British protectorate. Now it is the member of Commonwealth. Chief(глава) of state is British Queen, represented with General-governor. History The first discoverer of New Zealand was Tasman from Netherlands. In 1642 the Hollander Tasman found new lands to the south of Australia. But the European, who set in New Zealand for the first time in 1769, was Englishman James Cook. He proved that New Zealand consisted of 2 islands, divided by strait (now it’s known as Strait of Cook). Inhabitants Native people Maoris are 14,5% of population of New Zealand & their cultural heritage(наследие) becomes an integral part of the state. The most of settlers were British but after 1945 there were immigrants from Netherlands, the islands of the Pacific ocean. Nowadays there are a lot of people from Asia. People living there : Maoris, Europeans, Polynesians & others. Urban population is 76% of people. Religion: The most of population are Protestants but there are some Catholics, Anglicans and two Maoris sects: ratana, ringatu. Nature of New Zealand is various: about 2.000 of plants, but most of animals were taken from different countries. Animals in New Zealand are many fewer than plants. Living only in New Zealand Kiwi is a non-flying night bird. It was named so because of its cry. Kiwi is a National Emblem of New Zealand. The sights of Oakland Oakland is a city of “Thousand of Sails”. It is the largest town of New Zealand, located in the northern part.There are lots of sights there. For example: the Picture Gallery, Museum of transport & techniques, Pink garden “Parnella”, the unique aquarium, where you can feel like a seaman. Milford-Sound: Water miracle Newzealandian Milford-Sound appeared 20.000 years ago. It is located on South island. Milford-Sound is a bay with mixed sweet & sea water. The entering to the bay is guarded by a huge mountain & surrounded with wonderful forests. The magic nature of it impressed on Rudyard Kipling, who named this environment as the Eighth World Wonder. Economy of country 51% of territory of country is pasture. Cattle-breeding plays the main role in economy of New Zealand. New Zealand is the owner of one of the largest water area. So fishing is the important part of economy. Apples, pears, kiwi and other subtropical fruits are grown for export.
