They are an elite force, on par with the Strategic Rocket Forces and the Aerospace Defence Forces. First formed before World War II, the force undertook two significant airborne operations and a number of smaller jumps during the war and for many years after 1945 was the largest airborne force in the world. The force was split after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, losing divisions to Belarus and Ukraine, and has been reduced in size. The first airborne forces parachute jump was made on the second of August 1930August, 2-  Russian Airborne Troops Day The paratroopers are taught the techniques involved in parachuting from airplanes and landing safely. The purpose of the BAC is to qualify the soldiers in the use of the parachute as a means of combat deployment and to develop leadership, self-confidence, and an aggressive spirit through mental and physical conditioning. ArmementUnlike most airborne forces, which are a light infantry force, VDV has evolved into a fully mechanized parachute-deployed force thanks to its use of BMD-series light IFVs, BTR-D armored carriers, 2S9 Nona self-propelled 120 mm gun-howitzer-mortars and 2S25 Sprut-SD 125 mm tank destroyers. Becoming a paratrooper at Airborne Force is a unique experience requiring special dedication and a desire to be challenged mentally and physically.Airborne Soldiers have a long and distinguished tradition of being an elite body of fighting men who have always set the example for determination and courage. When you are a paratrooper, you accept the challenge of continuing this tradition. The Airborne Soldiers of the past set high standards–it is now up to you to maintain them! We are pleased that belong to the elite troops!
