The USAHistorical notes Christopher Columbus was born in Italy but lived in Spain for along time. He was a seaman and made many sea voyages. In 1492 the King and queen of Spain gave him money to go to India. He decided to sail west as he was sure our planet is round. After sailing 6400 km he reached some land. It was a new land – a new continent. It was central America in fact. People began to call it “The New World”Columbus and the discovery of America First settlements First pilgrims began to farm land. It was a very hard life. The work was full of danger. In New England where they lived there were a lot of wild birds - turkeys. And soon they had their first harvest. It was rather good. They thanked God for this dinner and the roast turkey was on the table. Since then the turkey has become the symbol of Thanksgiving Day.
