-When do people celebrate it?
-Yes, it is celebrated on the 14th of February. We know a lot of information about this holiday:
This holiday is one of the most favourite holiday of all English children and adults.
People throughout the world celebrate this holiday devoted to love.
In the English-speaking countries, it is а traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine`s cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionary.
They can celebrate it in many different ways.
But the message is the same everywhere - love!
Today as we discuss a lot of interesting information about this holiday.
Teacher: And your home assignment was to learn the dialogue about the history (origin)
this holiday.
Kate and Andrew have prepared the dialogue about the history of St. Valentine’s Day.
Let`s listen to them.
Students role-play the dialogue about the history of St. Valentine’s Day.
Student 1: -Hello, Kate! Did you hear we will have a party devoted to St. Valentine's Day? Did you know anything about the history of this holiday?
Student 2:- Hi, Andrew. Yes, of course, I have heard about the party. Moreover, I am preparing a short report and a presentation about the origin of this holiday. If you want to know something, I'll tell you.
Student 1:- Oh, it`s great! What interesting facts have you learnt?
Student 2: - There are many different stories, but here's one that seems to me more truthful. Valentine was a Christian priest |priːst|, who lived in Rome in the 3d century AD. At that time the Emperor of Rome was Claudius.
Student 1: – Yeah, I heard about it. Claudius wasn't very popular because he was trying to get more and more people for his army. The men didn't want to go to the army because they didn't want to leave their wives |waɪvz| and children.
Student 2: -Yes, Claudius passed a law |lɔː| (принял закон) which banned (запретил) marriage. But Valentine secretly married people who were in love.
Student 1: - And what happened later?
Student 2: - One night the soldiers|ˈsəʊldʒəz| caught|ˈkɔːt| him and put into prison. Many young people felt sorry for Valentine and visited him in prison. One of them was the daughter of a prison guard. On the day of his execution |ˌeksɪˈkjuːʃən|  Valentine wrote a note to her and signed it "Love from your Valentine". This was on 14 February 269 AD. That was a story.
Student 1: - Poor Valentine… Since then 14 February has been the Day of Love, people send love letters and presents to each other. Well, thanks for the interesting story. See you later. Bye!
Student 2 : - Bye!
Teacher: Thanks a lot for the interesting story.
Let`s compete in teams. The 1st competition will be match these sentences.

The contest «compliments to girls»
Task: The team has a girl standing on one side of the class, the young man - on the other.
You can reach it faster than your opponent, each step giving the girl one compliment.
So your next task is to say positive words about a person, whom you love. You must take a step and say one compliment, then you. Don’t repeat anything you have heard.
Do you like to hear good words?
Students:
You look gorgeous, nice, pretty, interesting…
You make me a better person
You smell like heaven
You are my best friend / my shoulder to lean on
You are the one person I know I can count on.
You’re the love of my life.
You’re my one and only.
You’re my everything.
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.
Let`s write a Cinquain about love.
Love.
Sweet and selfish.
Wonders, understands, burns.
Love is life's sweet mystery.
Magic.
So it’s time to finish the lesson. I hope our lesson was interesting and funny. I like your work today. And what about you? Can you put a mark for your work on the lesson?
Your homework is to make and write valentines to your friends and relatives.
All of you worked hard and get good and excellent marks.
Thank you for this lesson. Our lesson is over. Good-bye!
Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!
