teaching: to explain the difference between various types of holidays, to enlarge vocabulary on the theme “Holidays”, to analyze the grammar of the Past Perfect Simple and descriptive language, to listen to people describing travel photos, to provide making conversation about students’ memorable photos;
developing: to develop listening, speaking and reading skills, cognitive interest, memory, attention, perception;
up-bringing: to foster love for travelling as a way to get new experience and knowledge.

What is the date today? What is the day today? Who is on duty today? Who is absent? Today you have got an unusual lesson, a demonstration lesson.
Introduction of the theme and aims and actualization of students’ base Teacher: I would like to start our lesson with watching the short video. You should watch and tell us what the theme of the lesson is.

Teacher: you are right, today the theme of our lesson is Holidays. Across Africa. In this lesson we are going to explain the difference between various types of holidays, to enlarge vocabulary on the theme “Holidays”, to analyze the grammar of the Past Perfect Simple and descriptive language, to listen to people describing travel photos, to provide making conversation about your memorable photos.
So, students, today we are going to differentiate types of holidays and enlarge your range of holidays types. But you have already known some of them. Do you remember?
S1 - sightseeing holiday
S2 - beach holiday
S3 - camping holiday
S4 - skiing holiday
Introducing of the new material 1. Ss are to match the types of holiday with the photos and try to explain the meaning. (Flipchart EC4-8)
What type of holidays do the photos show?
S1 - adventure holiday – a holiday connected with active rest, for example, travel to safari, or horse riding; приключенческий отпуск;
S2 - package holiday - a holiday organized by a travel agent, with arrangements for transport, accommodation, etc., made at an inclusive price, поездка/путешествие, в стоимость которой включены разнообразные виды услуг;
S3 - safari - an expedition to observe or hunt animals in their natural habitat, especially in East Africa; сафари, охотничья экспедиция (обычно в Восточной Африке);
S4 - beach holiday –a holiday to spend on the coast of the sea, lake lying on the beach, swimming, sunbathing and relaxing; отдых на пляже;
S5 - sightseeing tour - экскурсионная поездка; экскурсия для осмотра достопримечательностей; the activity of visiting places of interest in a particular location;
S6 - (river) cruise - sail about in an area without a precise destination, especially for pleasure; круиз, морское путешествие, плавание,
S7 - camping holiday – a holiday in the countryside with living in tents; отдых на природе
S8 - sailing holiday – a holiday on a ship, boat, yacht; мореплавание;
2a. Ss discuss the difference between traveller and tourist ['tuərɪst].
S1 answers “Traveller - путешественник - a person who is travelling or who often travels for new experience, knowledge and sensations”;
S2 answers “Tourist - путешественник, турист - a person who is travelling or visiting a place for pleasure; usually sightseeing and staying in hotels”.
Ss read the texts and find out if they are travellers or tourists.
(While reading they can ask some definitions of unknown words)

While discussing students can use the following phrases:

Consolidation Across Africa
Teacher: We have said that one of the holidays is safari across Africa. Travelling in Africa has become much easier and organised safari tours are nowadays very common. However, there are still many people who prefer to travel in Africa on their own.
3. Spidergram. Students are to write associations with the word Africa for a minute.

4. Ss write (T) for true, (F) for false and (DK) for don't know next to the sentences 1 -8.

Vocabulary/ descriptive language
5. Ss are to choose the correct meaning for the descriptive language and answer the questions.
We shot through the barren landscape (line 1)
This means we moved very fast. Normally we use the word 'shoot' when guns are involved - 'He shot someone!'

Grammar
Teacher: Have a look at the sentences. What grammar is common in all of these examples?

Past Perfect, you are right.
6a. Ss are to read the Active grammar box and choose the correct alternatives.
a) We saw things.
Use the Past Perfect to show that one event happened before another one in the past.
We make the Past Perfect using had/hadn't + past perfect.
7. Ss are to put the verbs in brackets into the correct tense, Past Simple or Past Perfect Simple.

8. Ss are to match the sentence beginnings in A with endings in B changing a verb to the Past Perfect Simple in each sentence.
