«The age of Napoleon. Costume from revolution to empire 1789 -1815» The aim of this book is to examine and analyze the French fashion of the certain period (from 1789 to 1815), as well as to demonstrate its immediate connection with French culture and display the complex relations between the two. Additionally to that, the book gives exhaustive information about the influence of the French fashion on European and American clothing of the same period. .My main task as a translator is not only to transfer a message from one source to the other but also to assess the functions of the texts (the original and the translation) and the level of functional equivalence between the two. I have encountered a number of difficulties while translating the book. One of the most challenging obstacles was the historical background since the text is full of facts and figures of this period of the French history. One can’t but mention the complexity of syntactic structures and a wide use of compound and complex sentences which make the comprehension more difficult. Eventually I would like to point out that the goal of the graduation work is accomplished. Thank you for your attention!
