Ход урока
1. Организационный момент, приветствие.
Teacher(T): good morning, dear friends and guests, teachers and parents. Glad to see you. Today we are going to talk about holidays, especially the most favourite Russian holidays. And for the lesson we’ll watch a film and change opinions about holidays.

3. Основной этап урока.
– Now we’ll check how well you know holidays. Let’s guess the names of holidays. Look at the symbols. You should try to prove your suggestions briefly. And don’t forget about everyday phrases. I’ll give you an example.
E.g. I think it is birthday because every family has a cake for a Birthday. etc.
HOLYDAYS:
New Year – because the fur tree is the symbol of the New Year.
St. Valentine’s Day – because it is the day of love and a heart with an arrow is a symbol of this holiday.
Halloween – Jack-o-lantern is the symbol of this holiday.
Christmas – Santa Clause is the symbol of this holiday.
Easter – People dye eggs on Easter.
Birthday – people always buy a cake on each birthday.
Now I’d love to suggest you to watch a fragment from a very famous Russian film. But there is no action (what is it?) on the screen, you’ll only hear. Please, try to recognize the title of this film and of course the holiday.

Now we’ll work in groups of 3-4 and we’ll make a present to our guests – to make a collage, but your topics are different.
I offer the first group to study history and traditions of Maslenitsa.
The second group, your task is to describe the celebrations of Maslenitsa now.
The third group will make a story how Maslenitsa is celebrated at your form or at our school. 
What helps you in work?
Ok, you may use different sources of information about the holiday: dictionaries, encyclopedia, texts in Russian and in English, pictures and photos (copies from “Forward”). Also some supports are given to you: the structure of the sentence, the lexical support: all this can be used for making a collage. Moreover, you have an opportunity to use the Internet and find the information you need, you have the sites. But, please, remember: only one pupil can work at the computer, so choose one, who will responsible for it. The instruction how to make a collage is given to you: in English and in Russian. Look at it thoroughly before you start the work. You are given 10 minutes for the work. You may begin….
