Today’s Svobodny is the largest traffic junction of the Amur Region as well as an administrative center of the Svobodny District. It is spreads across a area 225 sq km. Population: 73,200. 2 Svobodny was founded in 1912 in connection with the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railroad and at that time was called Alexeyevsk, in honor of the then crown prince Alexey.
