May 9, 1945 Victory day Victory day is one of the most important holidays in many countries, especially in Russia. It is celebrated on May, 9th. Victory day is a day when The Soviet Union won in the Great Patriotic war. June 22, 1941 It is a beginning of the war. It lasted four years. 25 millions of our citizens died in this war. The Great Patriotic War broke out on the 22nd of June, 1941. Hitler Germany invaded the Soviet Union without declaring war. Early in the morning the Nazi troops crossed the border of Russia. The Great Patriotic War May 9, 1945 entered the history of mankind as the day of the Great Victory over fascist Germany. During the war the Soviet people mobilized all the forces for the struggle against the enemy. The country lived in accordance with the appeal: “Everything for the front, everything for the victory”. The first Heroes Their motto was: Russia is immense, but there is nowhere to retreat. Moscow is at our backs! Fight to the death! For Motherland! Die, but not give up! Everything for the Front! Leningrad September 8, 1941 - January 27,1944 The moment has come to work, to get ready to defend Leningrad. We have to see that nobody is just an onlooker. The enemy is at the gate. It is a question of life and death. Stalingrad In 1943 the Soviet Army won the great and glorious victory over the fascists. The symbol of Volgograd is the Mamaev Hill. It was the centre of fighting during the heroic defense of Stalingrad. Тhe partisan movement More than one million people took part in the partisan movement. Our solders fought with pilots of Normandie-Niemen The Soviet prisoners in death camps never stopped resisting. They inspired other prisoners with their courage. They shouted as they died: “Lift your heads, commanders, victory is near!” Death camps Let no one forget, Let nothing be forgotten! There is no family in our country which didn’t lose somebody in this awful war.
