Aims:
to develop pupils` speech and reading habits;
to revise the topical vocabulary;
to organize the using of the topical vocabulary in pupils` speech;
to develop pupils` ability to understand the authentic text;
I Beginning
If there is light in the soul,There will be beauty in the person.If there is beauty in the person,There will be harmony in the house,If there is harmony in the house,There will be order in the nation.If there is order in the nationThere will be peace in the world.
Teacher: It is a Chinese proverb. It says that if there is harmony in your family, house, nation, we will be happy. And if there is order in one of the leading countries of the world, the USA, there will be peace in the world. Today we will talk about the USA, its history and its capital . Hello boys and girls! I`m glad to see you. We`ll have an unusual lesson today. I want you to imagine an excursion around Washington D.C. We are the group of tourists in the centre of the city, we have lost without guide. Let`s begin.
II  The main part.
1p. - Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to the White House?
       We have lost.
2p.- Are you Russian?
1p.- Oh, let me introduce myself… We would like to see the sights of this city but our guide      is late. Can you help us?
2 p. –Yes, sure. I have a little time. Meet my friend…
3p.- How do you do?
1p. Fine, thank you.3p.- Is it your first visit to America?
1p.- Yes, it is. The country is big and very interesting. We want to see the most famous sights of the capital.
2p.- Let`s go for a walk! Welcome to Washington, D.C.
4p.- I`m sorry, what do the letters D.C. in the name of Washington stand for?
3p.- They mean the District of Columbia.
5p. – What state are we in now?
3p. – We are not in a state. Washington is the capital of the country, it`s not in any state.
6p.- Can you tell me, is there any rivers?
2p. – Sure. The city is on the Potomac river. It`s very long and beautiful river.
7p.- Could you tell us why was the city called “Washington”?
2p. – Don`t you know the history of this city? Listen to me! (about Washington)
8p. – Thank you ! It was very interesting!
            Look!  What monument is over there?
9p. – I think it`s the Washington monument. I have read about it. It is 555 feet and looks     like an Egyptian obelisk. It`s honours the “Father of the country” and the first President of the USA – George Washington.
 3p. – You are right. It is called “the Pencil”. And which sights do you know else?
(The White House, the Congress, the Capitol, the Congress library, the Jefferson Memorial, the Linkoln Memorial, the Smithsonian Institution)
3p.- What do you know about Thomas Jefferson?
10p.- He was the man who wrote the most important document of the USA – the Declaration of Independence. It was signed on the 4.of July 1776.
2p.-Here you can see the Jefferson Memorial.
11p. – It`s a very beautiful place, surrounded by cherry trees.
12 p.- And what about President Lincoln?
3p.- There is the Lincoln Memorial, with a huge statue of Lincoln in the middle.
1p.- This Memorial looks like a Greek temple.
3p.- Yes, you are right. It has 36 columns, 1 for each state at the Lincoln`s time.
4p.- Excuse me, is there any government buildings?
2p.- Sure. Look over there – it`s the Capitol, where laws are passed. It is the highest    building in this city.
5p.- It`s very interesting, but we`d like to see the White House.
6p.- I`ve heard that everybody can visit it.
2p.- If you really want to go inside, you have to plan it  in advance and buy special tickets.
6p.-I did not know. But why?3p.- Because the President and the first Lady live there. It`s their home and they need some peace and quiet.
7p.- I`m sorry but we have not time any more. We have to go to the bus station. Thank you for your excursion. It was very interesting.

III Teacher- Our excursion around Washington is over. And now we will summarize what we know about the capital of the USA – Washington. Open your books at page 139, ex 3.
