William the Conqueror Without the past there can’t be the future. The biography of a person is not only the dates. These are also events, people that formed and developed the country. Thanks to William the First England is today England as we know it. In many English text-books I read about William the Conqueror. The only thing I knew about him was his invasion of England. But I knew nothing more about him. Why was he called “the Conqueror”? Where was he born? Who were his parents, children and much more. That’s why we decided to learn more about this historical person. Actuality of our work is based on this matter. The topic: “William the Conqueror”The aims: 1) to study his life and his way of warrior and leader;2) To learn the culture, traditions, historical events of William’s times;3) To learn more English words. Object of the research: studying of William’s biography and his role in the English history.Hypothesis: learning famous people’s biography forms my own character, gives additional knowledge in history, language, way of living.Methods of research: interview of pupils, studying of information in books and Internet-resources. Books about William Research “Do you know William the Conqueror?”We interviewed the 9-11 grades. Three questions were asked: 1.Who is William the Conqueror?2.What is he famous for?3.Where did you get the information about him?Our school is a special one. We have pupils villages and our town. The knowledge is very different. We got the following results among 100 pupils.10% of town pupils know about him from TV channels and books.13% of village pupils remember his name from the text-books and English lessons.77% know nothing. (see appendix I)Basing on these results we came to conclusion to make a booklet devoted to this outstanding person. After these booklet made we told our pupils about William the Conqueror and represented them this useful information. Conclusions1.In spite of the fact, that William appeared at the British Isles as a conqueror, he made a lot for the British Empire future, the conquered new lands (areas) for Britain, established the king’s dynasty, put the relations with barons.2.William the Conqueror put great contribution into the England’s consolidation.3.Nevertheless there was no harmony agreement) in his family, as the fight for king’s power overwhelmed family feelings.
