Austria Some facts about the country: It’s population is about 8,3 million people. It borders Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. The official language is German, it is spoken by 88.6% of the population. Other local official languages are Hungarian, Slovene and Croatian. The capital of Austria and the largest city is Vienna . Graz is second in size with 250,099 people. Linz is the third - 188,968 people. Salzburg takes the fourth place - 150,000 people. Innsbruck is the fifth - 117,346 people. It was the city of the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976. All other cities have fewer than 100,000 inhabitants. Austria is one of the richest countries in the world. The country is located in the Alps so it has a lot of mountains and it is famous for its ski resorts all over the world. Did you know that Arnold Schwarzenegger who became the American citizen was born in Austria? Austria has been the birthplace of many famous composers such as Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss, Wolfgang Mozart and many others. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart1756 - 1791 Mozart was born in Salzburg in 1756, but much of Mozart's career was spent in Vienna. He started to compose at the age of 5. His father Leopold taught him languages and academic subjects as well as music. At the age 26 of Mozart Married Constanze Weber and they had 6 children but only 2 of them survived. Not long before his death in 1791 Mozart composed many of his best works. In 1791 Mozart fell seriously ill and died at the age of 35. He composed more than 600 works and is now considered one of the gratest composers of all times. Austria's national anthem, is said to be written by Mozart, it was chosen after World War II.
