History of ThanksgivingThanksgiving Day first started in New England. It was for thanking God for the good harvest of crops. The first Thanksgiving Day in America was on December 4, 1619. At that time, it was a religious holiday. Families come together for the day . They decorate their houses with autumn’s fruit and flowers and eat traditional American food Thanksgiving DinnerTraditional thanksgiving dinners those days usually includes turkeys cranberries, fish, dried fruit, clams, venison, plums and lobsters. Modern times thanksgiving dinners include the pumpkin pie. The tables are usually beautifully decorated too. Symbols of Thanksgiving The TurkeyThanksgiving Day celebration is incomplete without the legendary turykey. The turkey is usually the main meal of most household during this celebration. It is a customary dinner which serves as a reminder of the four wild turkeys that were served at the first Thanksgiving Day. The CornucopiaThe Cornucopia s a symbol of nature's productivity. It is the "horn of plenty" and is the symbol of a harvest festival. It is a horn-shaped container or basket that is filled with the abundance of a harvest. The traditional cornucopia was a curved goat's horn.
