Television The main source of news for millions of people is television. With its help we can see everything with our own eyes. It is the window to the world which gives us an opportunity to “travel” all over the world. It has the power to educate and broaden our minds. It helps us relax after hard day’s work and escape from reality. There are a lot of excellent educational programmes for children and programmes designed for schools. They help children extend their knowledge, and develop their imagination. There is always a great variety of programmes on TV: news and sports programmes, talk shows and TV games, documentaries and feature films, concerts and theatre performances. The InternetThe Internet has recently become another important source of information. In 1983 there were only 200 computers connected to the Internet, now there are around 50 million and this growth is clearly going to continue. The Internet is an international network of computers – it includes electronic mail (e-mail), the World Wide Web (www), discussion groups and online chatting. Many people are optimistic about the future of the Internet. Already, users can buy books, find out about holiday offers, book tickets and get all sorts of information from the Internet.
