London has five symphony orchestras as well as being the home of the Royal Opera, the Royal Ballet, the Festival Ballet and the English National Opera. “Music is the universal language of the world” LongfellowThe Royal Opera, at Covent Garden, always performed operas in their original language. The English National Opera, which is based at the London Coliseum Theatre, performs them in English. Classical music is the kind that we keep hoping will turn into a tune.There are many concert halls, including the Royal Festival Hall ( the South Bank) with The London Philharmonic and Barbican Hall, home of the London Symphony Orchestra. The Royal Albert HallThe 6 000- seat auditorium is one of the largest theatres in London, with a programme that includes both popular concerts and brass band competitions. The Albert Hall is most famous for the Summer Promenade Concerts ( the Proms). The Summer Promenade ConcertsA marvelous showcase of both classical and popular music. They take place each year from the end of July until mid-September with performances every evening. Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Ludving van BeethovenDuring the Promenade season the floor of the Albert Hall is cleared of seating, and the audience may walk in this area in front of the orchestra ( or promenade) or just stand while the music is being played. They were founded by Sir Henry Wood in 1895.The Proms Musical FestivalsThe Edinburgh Festival of Music and Drama takes place every year in August and September. The Festival first held in 1947. it includes opera, ballet, music of all kinds, painting, folk-dancing, film and drama. The popularity of the Festival is great.
