The Yeoman WardersПрезентация учителя английского языка Масловой И.А. A trip to London is never complete without a visit to the Tower of London which sits on the bank of the river Themes and dates back to the 11th century. The Tower is guarded by the Yeoman Warders, or “ Beefeaters” who were first introduced by King Henry VIII in 1485. The King used them as bodyguards but their duties also included looking after the prisoners in the Tower and guarding the Crown Jewels. Nowadays their main role is to act as guides for the thousands of tourists which visit the Tower every year. They also take care of the eight black ravens which live in the Tower. There are 36 Yeoman Warders at the Tower and they are all men who were in the armed forces for 22 years or more. They live in the Tower with their families. The Beefeaters are famous for their striking red and gold uniform which they wear on formal occasions. For everyday duties they wear dark blue uniform with red trimmings.
