St. Patrick’s Day March, 17 In France he joined a monastery and became a priest. He spent around 12 years in training. Then he set out for Ireland where he converted the Gaelic Irish to Christianity. Patrick was arrested several times,but escaped each time. For 20 years he had traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries across the country. Patrick's mission in Ireland lasted for over 20 years. He died on March 17, AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since. There are many legends associated with St Patrick. The first legend is about how St. Patrick rid the “The Emerald Isle” of snakes.  The leprechaun is a creature from Irish folklore. He is lazy, cunning, ill-tempered and greedy. The harp emblem is used on official state seals and documents including the Irish passport and Horseshoe When kept as a talisman, a horseshoe is said to bring good luck. Many believe that to hang it with the ends pointing upwards is good luck as it acts as a storage container of sorts for any good luck that happens to be floating by. Others believe that the shoe should be hung the other way, as it will then release its luck to the people around it. This holiday is very popular in America. On march, 17, more than 150,000 people march in the New York St. Patrick’s Day parade, and almost a million people wear green. A green line is painted down the center of Fifth Avenue, and the lights on top of the Empire State Building are turned green. Let’s watch it!!! Of course, Irish cuisine is featured in many restaurants, served with traditional Irish coffee. People wear green in memory of Ireland. In the USA traditionally, those who are caught not wearing green are pinched  And remember if you ever find a four-leafed clover, you will have good luck all your life. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
