Mark Twain (1835-1910) Mark Twain is a pen name of Samuel Clemens. He was born in Missouri in the United States.He went to work at the age of 12.He worked as a printer for the town newspaper.In1876 he wrote “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”. His book was such a success that in 1884 he wrote “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”. There are many other books written by Mark Twain. But these two novels brought him world fame. O, Henry (1862-1910) O, Henry is one of the best known short-story writers of the last century.His real name was William Sydney Porter.He was born in North Carolina.He tried several professions before starting his career as a journalist.He was the author of about three hundred short stories.The best of them were published in the books “Cabbages and Kings”, “The Four Million”, “Roads of Destiny”. Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) Hemingway was born in Oak Park, Illinois.He wrote 6 novels and more than 50 short stories.His style of writing is striking.His sentences are short, his words-simple. His famous works are “The Old Man and the Sea”, “The Sun Also Rises”, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”. Ray Douglas Bradbury (b. 1920) He was born in Illinois.He is an American author of many science-fiction short stories and five novels. Some of his stories are important because they discuss the danger of runaway technology.His famous works are “Fahrenheit 451 degree”, “The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit”, “The Martian Chronicles”.
