It comes in the fourth Thursday in November. This day when families get together. In 1620, the Mayflower, a boat with 102 men, women and children on board, sailed across the Atlantic ocean to settle in the New World. The following spring the Indians of Massachusetts tribe taught the Pilgrims how to grow corn, a new food for the colonists. They showed them other crops to grow and how to hunt and fish. In the autumn of 1621, rich crops of corm, barley, beans and pumpkins were harvested. The colonists had much to be thankful for, so a feast was planned. Thanksgiving became a national holiday many years later because of a woman named Sarah Hale. The major meals served on Thursday usually include certain traditional dishes: roast turkey, potatoes, pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving Day Parade is held annually in New York City.
