Tom Hanks:
We’ve had broadband since May, and it’s really changed the way I use my computer. You need broadband to download images from the Internet. We’ve got a wireless router in the hall, so it’s easy to get online in any room in the house. It’s safer to install a firewall if you want to protect your system from viruses.
When I have finished my homework I often surf the Net looking for some interesting information or checking my e-mails. You need to enter your password if you want to do it.
Last month I bought a webcam in the shop of “Logycom”, so I can video chat with my friends and relatives in the States.
When my computer was slow it could take a long time to download different programs. I also download images, a lot of music and videos from the Net because it’s faster now. And then I burn them onto CDs and DVDs. Sometimes my friends and I exchange our films or music. It’s easy to do it because we use a flash drive to copy some information.
I can’t imagine my life without my computer.
Of course, we can’t live without computers. We have to do a lot of work with computer: make reports for lessons, type different documents, papers etc. Tom Hanks says that he can’t live without computer too. What about you? Are you a fan of computer? What is good about using a computer and what is bad. Are you for or against it? Let’s find it out.
But before our discussion I want you to have a look at one person, so talented, so creative, so successful. I respect this person very much. I think he is one of the greatest inventors of our time.

Presentation “A Brief History of computers”
This presentation will be commentated by Oleg Kim.
Our class is divided into two groups. The first group is for computers, the second group wants to speak about negative influence of computers on people.
Group 1 “For computer”
Presentation and speech
Group 2 “Against computer”
Presentation and speech
In conclusion, I want to say that computers have many positive points as well as some negative ones. Which of you are right? I don’t know.
You are so different, and your ideas are different too. But I want to tell you some words.
Let’s talk about a frying-pan. On the first side it’s a kitchen pot. We can cook different tasty food using it. Roast turkey, pan-cakes, fried chicken.
On the other side we can use a pan as an instrument of fighting.
What is a pan for you? A kitchen pot or an instrument of fighting? It depends on only you.
And only you can make a right choice with computer. What is computer for you? A helper in your studying? A way to get some extra information? Or is it a killer of your health and life? Make a right choice.
Our lesson is over. I’m so thankful that you are with me today. My colleagues, you always support me. My students, I know you are ones of the best students in our school. And I hope that you enjoyed today’s lesson and yourselves.
