A) The Mount Vernon Museum gives an idea of George and Martha Washington's life. On display are personal things of America's first president and military equipment. One can also see porcelain and silver used at Mount Vernon.
A bust of George Washington modeled at Mount Vernon by the French sculptor Jean Houdon, is also exhibited. The bust is thought to look like the model. Washington is depicted as a general, the founder of the state.

Later he gave his private collection to the museum which had been opened a century before.
C) The Renwick gallery shows American art from the 19th to the 21st centuries. The collection has works of modern American artists in glass, ceramics, metal, and wood. The building, begun in 1859, was Washington, D.C.'s first art museum. It is named after the building's architect, James Renwick.

F) The attractive and unusual architecture of the Hirshhorn Museum sets it apart from the other museums on the Mall. Looking like a sculpture itself, the Hirshhorn Museum is a tall cylinder. The museum is named after an American collector of modern art.
Part 2.
Read the text below. For questions 6-11 choose the correct answer A, B, C or D.
If you stay in an Indian home, bring something from your home country as a gift. Although it is not expected, it would be much appreciated. But find out the social status and religion of your hosts before you choose the gift. A bottle of foreign whisky would be the perfect gift for some, and not at all appropriate for others. If you know the people you are going to stay with, it is a good idea to ask them what they would like. Some things are just not available in India.
It is not necessary to bring a gift when you are invited to dinner. After all, you are the honoured guest. Until recently, it would have been almost insulting to bring sweets or a bottle of wine. But this is not true today. Nowadays it is a custom which is becoming popular with many Indians. Fruit, flowers or a box of sweets are perfect gifts on such occasions, and will offend no one.
In all classes of society, both urban and rural, food is only taken to the mouth with the right hand. This is the most important part of the etiquette of eating in India. Once you have started eating, and have food in your right hand, it is all right to serve yourself, using the serving spoon with the left hand. When you watch Indians eat you will see that they keep their left hand on their lap.
If you are stuck for a conversation topic in India, talk about families. Another useful subject to start with is cricket. But once you get to know a person better, any topic is acceptable.
Indians love to talk about politics and religion. They enjoy opinionated discussions and not just polite conversations. Conversation is an art form and people take the time to really talk

b) you should take flowers.

c) it is fashionable to take flowers or sweets.
d) it is traditional to take a dish.

8 You should
a) never eat with your left hand.
b) always keep your right hand on your knee.
c) never eat with your right hand.
d) only use your right hand for serving food.

9 Indians love interesting discussions but they
a) only talk about family matters.
b) avoid religion and politics.
c) don't like talking about themselves.
d) don't appreciate polite conversation.

a) You can buy these things in India?

My family is all skiers. I started when I was about 5. I live close to the ski resorts, so when I was old enough to go alone, I started going after school with my friends and I got into that.
I am up here where I live till July, so I spend a lot of days on snow.
This year I’ve been injured. I am having a broken back. I’ve broken ribs. You’ve got to expect some of the worst things to happen if you are in sport for sure.
I prepare myself psychologically for a competition. I like being around my friends and laughing and just having a good time. I always like listening to music and dancing.
In my free time I like sewing and cooking. And I’ve been into gardening lately because it’s really nice. I love shopping of course.
Outside of skiing I would love to become a rock star. But I don’t see that happening. I like singing when I am in my car alone and the music is really loud, so I think it would be pretty fun.

Part 2 Reading
You are going to read an artiicle about weather forecasting. For Questions 1-7, choose the correct answer A, B, C, or D.
Weather forecasting
Cyclones in India, hurricanes in the Caribbean – severe weather events make news headlines almost weekly. Yet even in Britain, which has comparatively few climate extremes, the country is still governed by the weather. If it′s pouring with rain the British might stay indoors or go to the cinema; if it′s fine they′ll have a picnic.
Most people nervously study the weather forecast the evening before if they′ve got an important appointment the following day. Even if they have nothing planned, the weather often affects their mood.
15 For individuals, the worst that can usually happen if the weather catches them on the hop is that they get wet. For bustiness, the effects are far more serious. Airlines and shipping companies need to avoid severe weather and storm-force conditions. Power companies need to make sure they can supply the demand for electricity in cold weather; farmers plan their harvests around the forecast and food manufacturers increase their production of salads and other summer foods when fine weather is promised.
32 So who or what do meteorologists – weather forecasters as they are more commonly known – rely on when it comes to producing a forecast? Ninety percent of the information comes from weather satellites, the first of which was launched into space nearly forty years ago and was a minor revolution in the science of forecasting. Up until then, forecasters had relied on human observers to provide details of developing weather systems. As a result, many parts of the world where there were few humans around, especially the oceans, were information-free weather areas. Today, however, satellites can watch weather patterns developing everywhere.
In the UK meteorologists have also relied on releasing four weather balloons a day from eight fixed sites. These balloons measure wind, temperature and humidity as they rise upwards to a height of about 26,000 metres.
50 Some commercial aircraft can also be fitted with a range of forecasting instruments although this system has certain disadvantages. For example, it can provide a great deal of information about the weather on popular routes, such as London to New York, but little about the weather on more out-of-the way routes.
Instruments aboard ship can also supply basic weather information as well as important data on wave height. Generally, the range of these instruments is fairly limited but they can indicate which direction rain is coming from, how low the cloud is and give an idea of when the weather system will reach land.
One forecaster who has made a name for himself is a man called Piers Corbyn, who bases his forecasts on watching the Sun. Most forecasters will offer forecasts for only 10 days ahead, but Corbyn′s forecasts are for 11 months. Although most meteorologists believe that there is no scientific basis for his work, Corbyn′s forecasts are used by insurance companies who want to plan months in advance.

Interviewer: From the outset, depicting video game heroine Lara Croft on the big screen put Oscar-winning Angelina Jolie under the spotlight. It seems odd that you are renowned for doing dark edgy roles like your Oscar-winning part in Girl, Interrupted.
A.J: People told me I should be doing things considered to be more serious. I have drowned in being deep and complicated and dark. It is sometimes hard in life to be free so I thought I want to go on this adventure.
Interviewer: They say you loved the fact that Croft is both athletic and intelligent.
A. J.: This is the first time I have happened to do something main-stream and have some fan with it. It`s funny, this is me doing an action movie but I`ve never played such a lady. I`ll explain. Lara has been raised in England but she`s not upright. She`s wicked and wild with the same sense of freedom of an Indianna Jones. She`s completely sensual, free and primitive. More than anything she is also athletic. I love everything she stands for.
Interviewer: The film was a tough shoot for you, as you did a number of your own stunts. We know you had to work out hard o get yourself in shape for the role. You trained for 10 weeks before shooting began, then kept up a rigorous physical regimen, as well as doing bungy jumping, riding motorbikes and weapon training.
A.J: I felt exhausted but excited by the challenge. So many nights I went home with injuries, soaked in the bath and tried to get through to the next day.
Interviewer: Was that a bonus playing with your own father?
A.J: We have had a distant relationship lately, but during the shooting we were able to get in some serious bonding. Voight plays my screen father, Lord Croft. Our scenes together were special for so many reasons. We were in wardrobe together and having lunch together, it was great. So much of this story is about Lara reconnecting with her father. Критерии
