Ход урока.
1). Beginning of the lesson:
The theme of our lesson is: «Is it necessary to be in good relationships with our neighbours?» British people say: «Good fences make good neighbours». But is it so? We asked our senior students about it and here is what they answered us.
2). Presentation (interviews):
Pupil 1: I usually manage to get on well with my neighbours, but I heard that some people have problems with it. Who knows, may be their neighbours have bad characters?
Pupil 2: I don`t deny that getting on badly with our neighbours is not a good idea? But I sometimes quarrel with hem and it irritates me!
Pupil 3: I think we should have good relationships with our neighbours because they are the closest people to us. Moreover, we must respect them and be patient to them.
Pupil 4: I think it is not necessary to see eye to eye with your neighbours. You have your own family and only they will support you in difficult situations.
Pupil 5: Don`t get me wrong, but I find communicating wih my neighbours almost impossible. They can`t see things from my point of view.
Pupil 6: I think it`s very important to do something good for our neighbourhood. For example, building a playground or planting flowers near your block of flats are very good ways to build good relationships with your neighbours. Then they will respect you and you will live in peace.
Теасher: And what do you think? Is it necessary to be in good relationships with your neighbours? We should answer this question during our lesson. We all live in different neighbourhoods of our town and your neighbourhood influences on your life. Do you also think so? I want you to express your opinion.
Примерные ответы учащихся:
-I absolutely agree with it.
-It`s impossible to argue. Undoubtedly, it is true.
3). Listening.
I`d like you to listen to Alex, describing his neighbourhood and answer the questions:
( ex.2 p.32)
-What is his neighbourhood like?
-What is there in his neighbourhood?
Текст аудирования:
My neighbourhood is fairly quiet, with wide clean streets and attractive modern houses. It has everything I need without having to go into the town centre. There is a small supermarket, a post-office, a bank and a chemist`s. It`s great because I only have to go into town if I need to go to a department store or a clothes shop which isn`t very often. So I have everything I need nearby.
Учащиеся прослушивают запись и отвечают на вопросы.
Suggested answer key:
-I think Alex`s neighbourhood is great because it has everything he needs close at hand.
-Besides, it is quiet and peaceful.
-It has attractive modern houses and his street is tree-lined.
- There is a small supermarket, a post-office, a bank and a chemist`s.
4). Discussing the problem.
А) Режим: «учитель-класс»
And what can you say about your neighbourhood? Is it a small world around you or maybe it`s enormous? How does it influence your life?
Suggested answer key:
Pupil 1: Speaking about my neighbourhood, I must say that it is a quiet place in the outback of our town Proletarsk. There are no big shops or cafes, but we have a canal with clean water here. We often go swimming there. What else, we have got a very good bathhouse which is visited by many people. The street where I live is tree-lined and there are a lot of flowers in the yards. I don`t want to leave my neighbourhood in future.
Pupil 2: My neihbourhood is quiet and isolated. There is simply no any civilization here because I live with my family 15 kilometres away from Proletarsk. But what I like is fresh air and peace and quiet of an isolated territory. Maybe it`s not comfortable living here but it`s our cup of tea. My father is building a house in our town but i`m afraid it would be difficult to get used to a new life. I shall miss our country house.
Pupil 3: As for my neighbourhood, it is a very noisy area with lot`s of shops, corner shops and other places. There is a beautiful park not far from my house. But the traffic is heavy. And I can`t stand heavy traffic and constant noise. So, I`d rather live in a more quiet territory. It influences my lifestyle very much.
Teacher: So, as I have seen your neighbourhoods influence your lifestyles. Am I right? Recently I was a witness of a small argument between my neighbours. They quarreled about rubbish. And I realized that we can`t be good neighbours if we don`t keep our house or a yard tidy. And what is your opinion?
В).Режим «ученик1- ученик2-ученик3 etc.»
Suggested answer key:
Pupil 1: I think you are right. It`s impossible to be good neighbours if we don`t keep our houses and yards clean. It`ll be a reason for a quarrel. So, I try to help my parents with household chores indoors and outdoors. As a result, our family has a good reputation and we don`t have problems with our neighbours and get on like a house on fire. Have you got anything to add?
Pupil2: The point is, I live in a block of flats in a comfortable flat. But there is a lot of work to do about the flat. I try to keep my room tidy. Sometimes I do the washing or ironing. My favourite household chore is dusting the furniture. As for washing the clothes, my mother does it for me. So, I can`t say that I do a lot about the house, but still. Our neighbours respect us for our tidiness and we don`t have reasons for any problems. What can you add?
Pupil 3: As for our family, we try to keep our house and our yard clean but sometimes we have problems with it. We sometimes forget to throw rubbish in time or our dog may break something while playing with the cat. That kind of thing.
Teaсher: But inspite of it, all of us have some problems at home. It`s impossible to live without problems. They also influence on our neighbours. Have you got any problems at home?
Pupil1: Inspite of the fact that I`m a child of one parent we have got a lot of problems at home. I have no brother or sister so, it`s me who always cleans the house. Nobody helps me about the flat except my mother. But she is very busy at work, so she has no time to do a lot. But there are positive moments- nobody takes my things without asking, for example.
Pupil 2: I find it impossible not to have problems at home, so my family also has our share of problems. I have some habits which really annoy other members of my family. We have arguments and our neighbours are witnesses of that sometimes.
Pupil 3: My family is very well- organized but it doesn`t mean that we haven`t any problems. My mother never gets of the phone and it gets on my nerves. Sometimes she takes my things without asking. By the way, nobody helps me about the house and it`s a problem for me sometimes to do so much housework. I like to play loud music but my father scolds on me for that. In short, and it`s undoubtedly, sometimes our problems influence on our neighbours.
Teacher: So, it seems to me that the less problems we have at home, the better atmosphere is in our neighbourhood. Do you think so? Let`s make a small conclusion to what we have said.
Suggested answer key :
Pupil 1: We should look after our houses, yards, pets etc.
Pupil 2: Our duty is to help our parents to do household chores in order not to have argumens.
Pupil 3: We should resolve our problems in a friendly way.
5). Technology «Brainstorm».

Teacher: Think of your neighbours. Which of the above mentioned adjectives would best describe your neighbours? (ex. 4b p.32)
Suggested answers:
Pupil 1: My next-door neighbours are very hospitable people. They always share things with us. We often visit each other and help in difficulties. They are not arrogant or greedy. On the contrary, they are very kind-hearted and outgoing. Their only fault is that they are a bit forgetful. But in whole they are very generous people. They can give you a good advice. I try to get on well with my neighbours.
Pupil 2: As for my neighbours, they are as safe as houses. They are very sociable and outgoing. They are not easily annoyed and they behave themselves well. I may say that they are successful in life, because they are hard-working and energetic. They are not envious or mean. Their only fault is that they are a bit talkative. Sometimes, it`s impossible to stop their conversation.
Pupil 3: I don`t know my new neighbours very well, but I think they are nice and friendly. They never drop litter or some other bad things. But they are very sociable and talkative. Sometimes they are a bit loud and noisy. It`s so entertaining to watch them.
Pupil 4: Our next-door neighbours are very noisy. They keep having loud parties all the time. I don`t like the way they behave themselves and keep their flat. But they are sometimes outgoing and can help you in difficult situations. So, I am not against to get along with them.
Teacher: So, as you see, good relationships predominate over bad ones.
7). Relaxation. Exerсise «Molecule».
Teacher: Stand up! Come here. Shut your eyes. Go around the classroom. (In a minute) Stand still. Open your eyes.
(Teacher divides pupils into three groups)
