Brief description of context, location and time
The classroom is quite big, with desks in rows across the room. There is an overhead projector, a computer and some posters too. The lesson was before lunch at 11.35 a.m. o’clock approximately. It was Friday.
Brief description of learners
There are 14students in the group aged 12-13. Half girls, half boys. Most students are rather motivated, though the level varies. They know each other well since they are the students of the same school. The students are quite interested and motivated, though there are 2 weaker students. The students feel comfortable during the lessons and they are quite active.
c. Brief description of the new idea/ solution and why chosen
I have chosen information gap activity. This is more interesting than just reading the text individually and answers the questions; it gives students more speaking practice and motivates them. The general topic was “Countries and nationalities” and this lesson focused on English as an international language. So we can see that this lesson fits the timetable.
What went well? Why?
The lesson was quite dynamic as we used different activities and visual aids. Children had a lot of speaking activity and I tried to observe teacher limit talking time. They really enjoyed moving around the classroom trying to find the answer to their question and in general the students liked the discussion and they had interesting ideas on the topic. The lesson gave the students the opportunity to express themselves and they talked within their partners, group and the whole class.
What did not go well? Why?
In general the lesson was successful, though during freer practice the students had some problem in constructing sentences, so I had to give them some patterns as the basis of their answer.
What changes will I make next time? Why?
There was not enough writing activity, so next time I would like to add more writing tasks so they can improve their writing skills. I would like to include some videos with real people talking about the future of the language and natives expressing their opinion about the subject, though I need to revise the lesson then as it will take some extra time.
