Цель: активизировать знания учащихся о некоторых праздниках англо-говорящих стран, проверить знания об особенностях праздников Великобритании.

Начальный этап
Организационный момент урока- Hello, boys and girls! I'm glad to see you. Sit down, please. Let’s begin our lesson. Today we will talk about some holidays of Great Britain and about their special things.

NEW YEAR’S DAY – JANUARY 1 (слайд 2)
The most common type of celebration is a New Year party.
Every year the people of Norway give the city of London a present. It’s a big Christmas tree. (слайд 3)
Some people make New Year Resolutions:
I'll get up early every morning next year.
I'll clean my shoes every day.
ST. VALENTINE’S DAY – FEBRUARY 14 (слайд 4)
People send Valentine cards to their husbands, wives, girlfriends and boyfriends. They also can give soft toys, chocolate, hearts, etc.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Honey is sweet
And so are you.
MOTHERS’ DAY (слайд 5)
People visit their mothers if possible and give them flowers and small presents. If they cannot go they send a “Mothers’ Day card”.

Many modern Easter symbols come from ancient time.
The egg was a symbol long before the Christian era.
The Easter bunny (rabbit) is also originated in pre-Christian time.
HALLOWEEN – OCTOBER 31 (слайд 7)
On October 31st British people celebrate Halloween. It is the most colorful and exciting holiday of the year. Its symbols are black cats, bats, skeletons, pirates, etc. People make lantern from pumpkin. They cut out eyes, nose and mouth in the pumpkin. Then they put a candle into it.
Halloween is a time for fun. Children go from house to house with “trick-or-treating”.
CHRISTMAS DAY – DECEMBER 25 (слайд 8)
It’s the most popular holiday in Britain. People decorate Christmas trees with colored balls, tinsels, crackers, toys, etc. People give each other presents and send Christmas cards. Children hang their stockings on their beds for Santa’s presents. The traditional English dinner on Christmas is turkey and pudding.
