TEACHER: Citizens of the fairy-tale country! Do you hear me? The guests from Great Britain , Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand have arrived to our party. You’ll have the opportunity to know as much as possible about these countries.
GREAT BRITAIN
( the delegation of Great Britain appears )
P1: Great Britain is a highly developed industrial country. Shipbuilding, coal-mining, textile, electronics, chemical and automobile industries are very important for Great Britain.
P2: Great Britain is famous for its woolen industry. English wool is exported to many countries.
P3: Great Britain is rich in coal, iron, ore and some other mineral resources. It is one of the leading countries in the world.
P4: The largest cities of Great Britain are London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh, Carrdiff.
P5: Oxford and Cambridge are called university towns. There are many students here.
P6: The climate of Great Britain is mild and damp. The winter is not very cold and the summer is not very hot.
P7: Great Britain consists of three parts: England, Scotland and Wales. The longest river is the Severn. The highest mountain is Ben Nevis.
LONDON
P1: London is the capital of Great Britain. It is situated on the river Thames.
P2: London is a very big and important political, industrial, scientific and cultural centre of the country.
P3: London is a very big port, one of the greatest commercial centres in the world, a university city and the seat of the government of Great Britain.
P4: London consists of four main districts which differ from each other. These are the City, Westminster, the West End and the East End.
P5: The City is the heart of business and financial life of the country. Many banks and offices are situated there.
P6: Westminster is the administrative centre of the capital. The Houses of Parliament is there. It is a beautiful building with two towers and a very big clock called Big Ben.
P7: There is Westminster Abbey opposite the Houses of Parliament. It is a very beautiful church built over 900 years ago.
P8:The West End is the richest part of London. Here we can find most of the big shops, hotels, museums, art galleries, theatres and concert halls, fine parks and squares.
P9: Most of the plants and factories are situated in the East End. Working people live there.
ENGLISH TRADITIONS
P1: The English is the nation of stay-at-homes. The English people keep their traditions with great honour.
P2: They like to mark Shakespeare Festival, St. Valentine’s Day, All Fool’s Day, Christmas celebrations, New Year’s Eve and others.
P3: Every year Shakespeare Festival is celebrated at Stratford-on-Avon, on the 23rd of April, the day of Shakespeare’s birthday.
P4: St. Valentine’s Day is the day when boys and girls, men and women choose their sweethearts.
P5: All Fool’s Day is one of the favourite holidays to some people in England. It’s the holiday on which jokes are played. It is a merry holiday of all-ages children and grown-ups.
P6: Christmas Day is celebrated on the 25th of December. On this day in England people give presents to each other; they go to the parties and festivals as well.
P7: Usually English celebrate the New Year’s Day at a family party. At midnight the wireless or TV is turned on and everyone can hear the chimes of Big Ben.
AUSTRALIA
P1. The aboriginals of Australia are glad to welcome you, my dear friends.
P2. Australians are very grateful to James Cook for such a beautiful country. They brought his house from England to Australia, rebuilt it and made it a museum. If you come to Australia you can visit it.
P3. On the national emblem of Australia a kangaroo and an emu are represented.
P4. Australia is famous for its sheep. It leads the world in wool production.
P5. When it is winter in Europe, it is summer in Australia. So, if you want to lie in the sun and swim in the ocean instead of skating and skiing you are welcome to Australia.

NEW ZEALAND
P1. New Zealand is situated to the southeast of Australia. When it is midnight in Great Britain, it is midday of the next day in New Zealand.
P2. The seasons in New Zealand are also different what they are in Great Britain. From December till February it is summer, from March till May it is autumn, from June till August it is winter and from September till November it is spring.
P3. Summer is not very hot and winter is not very cold in New Zealand.
P4. English is the national language in New Zealand.
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
P1. The discovery of America as you know was made by Christopher Columbus who landed on the island of San-Salvador on the 12th of October 1492. Now this day is the official date of discovery of America.
P2. Now the USA is a highly developed industrialized country. It has very powerful industries, advanced technologies and science.
P3. The USA is the richest and one of the most developed countries in the world. The country is very rich in mineral resources.
P4. The climate is different in different parts of the USA: polar, continental, subtropical and tropical.
P5. The capital of the USA is Washington. The city was founded in 1790.
P6. New York is the largest city in the USA. The center of New York is Manhattan Island. It is the oldest part of the city.
P7. Americans are so hard-working. There 5 national holidays that are celebrated in every state. These are: New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.
P8. Americans are friendly. In small towns people say ‘’hello’’ to friends and strangers in the street. Even in cities strangers may start up a conversation.
CANADA
P1. I’d like to represent one of the English speaking countries – Canada. The population of Canada is about 25 million. The national emblem is the maple leaf.
P2. Canada is famous for its lakes and the Niagara Falls. It is rich in wheat, meat, some kinds of fruits.
P3. The capital of Canada is Ottawa. The country has its own customs and traditions. Canadians speak English and French.
P4. History has preserved the date and the names of the Ukrainians who were the first to come to the Canadian land. It was on the 7th of September, 1891, when Ivan Pylypiv and Vasyl Yelenyak arrived in Montreal.
P5. Now more than one million of Ukrainians live in Canada.
FAMOUS ENGLISH WRITERS AND POETS
RUDYARD KIPLING
P1. Rudyard Kipling is an English writer. He wrote many wonderful poems and tales, short stories about India, children’s stories about animals and some books on history. In 1907 Kipling was awarded the Nobel prize for literature. He was the first writer and the first Englishman who was awarded this prize.
P2. SIX SERVING MEN
I have six honest serving men –
They taught me all I knew.
Their names are What and Why and When,
And How and Where and Who.I send them over land and sea,
I send them East or West;
But after they have worked for me,
I give them all a rest.

GEORGE GORDON BYRON
P1. George Gordon Byron is a famous English poet. He wrote many poems. ‘’Child Harold’s Pilgrimage’’ brought him fame and universal acclaim. His last work was a novel ‘’Don Yuan’’. Byron took an active part in political life of England.

ROBERT BURNS
P1. Robert Burns was born in 1759 in Scotland. His father was very poor but he wanted to give his son the best education he could. He began to teach him to read and write. At the age of 15 Robert began to write his first poems. He wrote about his native country and about the life of poor people.
P2. Robert Burns dead at the age of 37. He became famous in Great Britain and in many other countries only after his death. Burn is dear to all people because he loved freedom and wanted all people live in peace and friendship.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
P1. William Shakespeare is one of the world’s greatest writers. He also was an actor. William Shakespeare founded the theatre ‘’The Globe’’ himself. He wrote the plays for the theatre and played the main parts in them. William Shakespeare also wrote many sonnets and poem. The best Shakespeare’s works, written hundreds years ago, are very popular nowadays. They are translated into many languages and they are read and loved by the people all over the world.
