Spotlight 10 Unit5 Geography Across The Curriculum.
Travelling. It’s a wonderful time for us to have holidays .And of course ,we are keen on travelling .Why is it so?
We want to learn more about other people’s culture and traditions, to visit various tourist’s attractions and wonderful resorts. We can get perfect practical skills in English visiting foreign countries and we can combine entertainment with learning. But sometimes our holidays depend on weather conditions.
When it rains we may think about something important and not so important as proverbs may be.
1.Open,please, your books at page 96 –ex.2-At first match the proverbs to their meanings. 1b.2d.3e.4c.5a.1.It’s raining cats and dogs-it’s raining heavily-Льет,как из ведра.
2.It never rains, but it pours.-When one bad thing happens , lots of bad thing happen.-Пришла беда,отворяй ворота.Беда не приходит одна.
3.After the rain, comes the rainbow.-Bad events are followed by happy events.-
Не было ни гроша ,да вдруг алтын.
4.Into every life ,a little rain must fall.-Nobody can live happily all the time.
Не было бы счастья, да несчастье помогло.
5.Every cloud has a silver lining-Even bad things have something good about them.-Все хорошо,что хорошо кончается.
So, our lucky friends are on their holidays now. We can read about their impressions.
2.Our task is to complete the gaps with the correct word based on the words in brackets and then to listen to the disk to check them and then we’ll discuss together.
Ex.3 p.96-I’ll give you 5 minutes to complete the task .Please, listen carefully.
Will you, please, open your copybooks and write down the rule:
Adjectives, ending in –ing describe what somebody or something is like. For example: The book is interesting .Adjectives, ending in- ed describe how somebody feels. For example: We were interested in his playing.
Disk 2 _22 arcade /a:keid/ round a square-галерея игровых автоматов
An arcade- What part of speech is it?-It’s a noun. Why?

Because we can see an article “an” and the noun ‘’ arcade”.What part of speech can describe the noun ? It’s an adjective. Why? Because it
answers the question “which? “.
Next, please. What part of speech is the word “amaze “? It’s a verb. What does itmean?-to surprise. What adjective can we think about ? Amazing. Do you knowthe synonyms ? (Fantastic, surprising…)
Go ahead. I’ve been…. lots of time .What is the tense of the verb ? Present
Perfect Continuous. Why? –We see” ‘ve been…lots”. I’ve been spending…
Next one. “a…café “-to strengthen the meaning of adjective we use here an
adverb not only nice ,but really nice café.
Then “ on the …floor.” We have cardinal and ordinal numeral in English as in
Russian. When we speak about the dates and the floors we use ordinal numeral.
(the first floor ).
Go ahead. We can see the word ‘’sitting” and , therefore, next verb should be
used the same way . “reading”-homogeneous- однородные члены.
We see the preposition” for” –Consequently the verbs are gerunds.
The next postcard.” Florida”-What is the part of speech ?A noun.
What part of speech do we need to describe it ?An adjective. Do we know thatadjective? “ Beautiful”.
Next.” The beaches”-What part of speech is it ?A noun. What do we need next ?An adjective .What part of speech is “fantasy “? A noun .Do we know the
adjective ? Fantastic.Go ahead. “Go “-What part of speech is it ? A verb. What can show us the tenseof the verb? The word “yesterday “. What is the tense of the verb ? Past Simple. What is the verb ? Went .“To go on a guided tour”-it’s a phrase.-отправляться на экскурсию в сопровождении экскурсовода.
You should keep it in mind.
And the last one.-“going dancing.” When there are 2 actions which are taken part
at the same time we use participle one for the second verb.
(Have you done any mistakes ? Raise your hands, please. How many mistakes
have you done ?)
Is it clear now ? It’s great.
3.There are different aims of travelling. Can you name them ?Educational, on
Business, for pleasure.Have you heard about ecotourism ? It’s the business of organizing holidays to
natural areas ,especially areas that are far away such as the Rain Forest, where
people can visit and learn about the area in a way that will not hurt the
environment.
As for me ecotourism is associated with nature-forests, seas, oceans and with
ecological problems. You know the main problems connected with pollution:
air pollution, land pollution and water pollution.
If we haven’t heard about Marine Litter , let’s listen to the information.
What is Marine Litter?
It is litter such as food wrappers, cigarette ends , drinks cans and toys that are
left behind by the many thousands of people that visit beaches every year.
It can also come from ships, fishermen, drains (канализация) , and factories.
2. Which 2 ways does marine litter harm wildlife in? Why?
Marine mammals can get mixed up in marine litter, which can cause injury
and stop them from escaping from their enemies. Also some of them eat
litter , that fills their digestive system , making them feel full and they starve.
3.How can litter harm people ?
They cut themselves on glass or metal .4. List three ways we can help solve the problem.
We can : a)take our litter home with us
b) take other people’s litter home
c) organize a Beach Clean-up Day.
