Kid’s thumbs are getting bigger and stronger because they spend so much time texting and playing computer games. Young people use their thumbs much more often than adults do. They use their thumbs to type on a key board and play video games. Using thumbs is so common in Japan that the Japanese call teenagers the “ thumb generation”. Scientists think that this shows that modern technology can change the way our bodies grow.
Everybody talks about video games and how popular they are, and some young people spend a lot of time playing them. Almost a third of 13-year-olds in the UK play video games every day. Young people who play more than 30 hours a week are becoming video game addicts. They are addicted to playing computer games. They begin to lose their friends, and they also truant from school and start to get bad marks for their schoolwork. Some even steal money to buy new games.

Thomas Edison Was born in 1847 in Ohio in the United States. He started school at the age of eight but he hated it because on his first day the teacher called him stupid. After that he stayed at home a lot of time and had lessons from his mother. He also read a lot of science books at home. He went back to school sometimes but he never liked it very much. He left school forever at the age of twelve and got a job with a newsagent. He began inventing things at the age of nineteen. In 1877 he invented the photograph, a sort of very early CD player! Two years later, he made the world’s first electric light bulb and New York became the first city to have electric lights.
