A Local Wonder AlhanayAlkhanay is the first national park in the South-Eastern part of Trans-Baikal Region, created by the Government in 1999. Alkhanay is located in the Duldurginsky District. It is a holy place for pilgrims Lamas. National Park was established to preserve the unique natural Alhanay’s mountain range as historical, ecological and aesthetic value. In the park there are places for public recreation with specially designed tourist routes. Also there are special places for pilgrims. A mountain Alkhanay which is over Agin steppes is one of the highest peaks in South-East of Trans-Baikal Region. Its height is 1662 meters. There are many plants and animal species which are rare and need to be protected. On the territory of Alhanay there are more than 340 species of plants, 180 of them are used in Tibetan medicine. About 160 species of insects, 2 - amphibians, 4 - reptiles, 95 - birds, 23 - mammals, 17 species of fish can you meet there. Cold and fresh waters of Alhanay's sources are considered as sacred and used by the population in the treatment of diseases. Every summer about 30 thousands tourists visit Alhanay.
