Today, the art of Russian lacquered miniature has not only revived, but is coming more popular than ever. The painting style has many subjects: landscapes, fairy-tale and historical themes, portraits, as well as traditional “troikas” and “tea-party”. Another Russian craft is tightly connected to the art of lacquered miniature – the painted trays of Zhostov. No two trays, decorated with bright bouquets of flowers on dark-blue or black backgrounds, are even the same. Zhostov artists create masterpieces of unique beauty. The first place among the Russian art of pottery belongs to Gzhel. All the Gzhel items, including factory products, are hand-painted! The Gzhel craftsmen use the method called “brushes with shadow”. The manufacture of ceramic toys is very popular in Russia, and the most famous producers come from the village of Dymkovo. Statues of knights, men, women, fairy-tale creatures, birds and animals, made in this fashion, are readily bought for interior decoration. It is very difficult, almost impossible, to picture the great variety of Russian crafts. Thank you!
