English people celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December. Christmas is a family holiday. People decorate their houses. A Christmas tree is one of the main symbols of Christmas. People usually buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with toys, coloured balls and little coloured lights. Every year there is a very big Xmas tree in the centre of Trafalgar Square. This is a present from the people of Norway to the people of Great Britain. Candles at Christmas go back to old times. People believed that their light helped him to forget the darkness of winter. Santa Claus North American fairy tale character who gives gifts to children at Christmas. Birthplace of Santa Claus is Lapland. The same views are prevalent, the birthplace of Santa Claus is the North Pole. Children write letters to Santa Claus and tell him what gifts they would like to get. Day is on December 26. In past times it was the traditional day to give presents to servants. For Christmas people eat traditional food: turkey, potatoes and green vegetables. Then they have the Christmas pudding. At 5 o’clock it’s time for tea and for Christmas cake. Every year after Christmas children have Christmas holidays.
