The poem tells about the triumphant struggle of three knights - friends: Tariel, Avtandil and Pridon to release the captive of Kagami, beautiful Nestan-Darejan, the beloved of Tariel.
The duel between the two forces inspired human feelings of love, friendship and freedom of the knights, on the one hand, and Cajete, which is a symbol of slavery, of darkness and oppression, on the other hand, is the main conflict underlying the story of the poem.
This unique struggle between principles of good and evil, light and darkness, freedom and slavery ended with glorious victory for the triumph of freedom and justice for knights: they defeated an impregnable fortress Cajete and freed the beautiful Nestan-Darejan - a symbol of beauty, light and goodness.
