Presentation of the Lesson.
Dear friends! Today we have our lesson on the topic «Computers in our life». Computers play a very important role in our life. For millions of people it is the main source of information and the cheapest form of communication with the whole world. It gives an opportunity to people to travel all over the world, to make new friends, to chat with them. It also has the power to educate people. With the help of distance learning and videoconferencing people get an education, expand there outlook, know many new things. But for somebody it may be a kind of relaxation: people run away from everyday problems playing computer games or using virtual reality.
You are the future specialists who will be closely connected with the world of computers, Hi-technologies, modern machines and multimedia, so, I think, the topic of our lesson is useful and urgent for you.
Warming-up.
Read the theme of our lesson.
Can you think of an alternative one?
Now, please answer these questions:
What   for  do  you use your  computer ?
Are you taught to do serious computing?
Why is it important to acquire computer skills today?
Read  the  text  and  do  the  tasks.
When Charles Babbage, a professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, invented the first calculating machine in 1812 he could not imagine the situation we find ourselves in today.
Nearly everything we do in the modern world is helped, or even controlled by the computers, the complicated descendants of his simple machine.
Computers are used and more often in the world today, for the simple reason that they are far more efficient than human beings. They have much better memories and they can store much information. No man alive can do 500,000 sums in onу second, but a computer can. In fact computers can do many of the things we do, but faster and better. They can control machines in factories, predict tomorrow's weather, and even play chess, write poetry, or compose music.
Many people associate computers with the world of science and maths, but they are also a great help to scholars in other subjects, in history, literature and so on. In the library it is now possible for a scholar to find a book or article he needs very quickly, which, when a million or more new books are published each year, is quite an advantage. There is a system, controlled by a computer, of giving books a code number, reducing them in size by putting them on microfiche , and then storing 3,000 or more in a container no bigger that washing machine. You tell the computer which subject you are interested in and it produces any microfiche you need in seconds. There are also systems to translate articles from foreign magazines by computer. So computers can help us in many ways.
Answer the questions:
What types of computers do you know?
Which computer programs do you use?
What are the main components of a computer?
Where can we use a computer?
Find the following words in the text
современный сложный эффективный уменьшить производить микрофиш Listening.
Listen  to  the  text  and  answer the question «What is the computer of the future like as scientists predict?»
Wearable  ComputersIf you are hooked on the computer and can’t tear yourself from it, don’t worry. Soon you’ll be able to wear it on your wrist, in your glasses and even in your earrings. The first wearable computers are already on sale though they are probably a bit bulgy right now. Don’t be surprised if in a few years you’ll be putting on your socks and your computer each morning  before going  to work. Of course, you might not even have to leave the house. Scientists predict that in the future most of us will work from home.
