Islam: Good afternoon, dear audience!
Aru: On today’s event we would like to talk about holidays and traditions in the world.
I: So, Aru, what is holiday?
A: The word holiday comes from the Old English word hāligdæg (hālig "holy" + dæg "day").[1] The word originally referred only to special religious days. In modern use, it means any special day of rest or relaxation, as opposed to normal days away from work or school.
I: Thank you so much! I also prepared some useful information about holidays. Please, look at the screen.
(Video about holidays)
Aru: Islam, before all the presentations of different countries, it’s appropriate to check how much you know about holidays around the world. Let’s ask our audience! If you give correct answers, you’ll get a present!

Lights for Christmas trees weren’t sold to the public until 1917.

CORRECT ANSWER: 3 billion
Of the roughly 7 billion people on Earth about 3 billion are familiar with "Silent Night." The carol was first heard on Christmas Eve 1818, in Oberndorf, Austria, and was written by Joseph Mohr and Franz Gruber. It has been translated into more than 300 languages.
3)
CORRECT ANSWER: Felix the Cat
Felix the Cat led the way for huge, colorful balloons in the 1927 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. The organizers didn't have a plan to deflate him, so when the parade was over, they let him fly off into the sky and pop.

Correct answer: Christmas Old ManCorrect!
Christians are a small minority in China, which is officially atheist (the traditional religion contains elements of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism). For most Chinese, the major winter celebration is the New Year, or Spring Festival, which occurs in January or February.
What's the legend behind using firecrackers to celebrate Chinese New Year?
They're meant to scare away monsters.
They wake up the gods in time for the celebration.
They provide light for the dark winter night.
You've got it! According to one legend, a monster terrorized villages while searching for food at the time of the new year. One year, the monster attacked while the villagers were building a fire out of bamboo. The bamboo started making loud popping sounds and as it burst into flame, the monster was scared off.3) According to Chinese custom, on New Year's Day you shouldn't... Eat anything Leave home Sweep the houseRight! You shouldn't sweep the house on New Year's Day. Tradition says you run the risk of sweeping your fortune away. In the days after the New Year you can start cleaning again, but remember to sweep toward the center of the house, not out. After the fifth day you may take out the trash - but only through the back door.A: 9 b grade pupils are ready to present Chinese holidays and traditions!
