He developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world: the phonograph, the motion picture camera, a long-lasting practical electric light bulb... He created the first industrial research laboratory.Edison was a prolific inventor, holding 1,093 US patents in his name. Thomas Edison’s PhonographConsidered to be the first great Thomas Edison invention, and his life-long favorite, the phonograph would record the spoken voice and play it back. The first recorded message was of Thomas Edison speaking “Mary had a little lamb”. Thomas Edison’s Light BulbEdison was able to achieve a light bulb that lasted for many hours, Edison also later invented the entire electric utility system so he could power all those light bulbs, motors and other appliances that soon followed. Thomas Edison’s Motion Picture Working with W. K. L. Dickson, Edison developed the Strip Kinetograph, using George Eastman’s improved 35 mm celluloid film. Cut into continuous strips and perforated along the edges, the film was moved by sprockets in a stop-and-go motion behind the shutter. Carbon telephone transmitterIn 1877–78 Edison along with the Bell invented and developed the carbon microphone used in all telephones receiver until the 1980s.
