A woman of fantastic beauty and bitter wisdom.
On December 20, 1932 Vivien married to Gerbert Lugh Holman – a lawyer.
The life was monotonous and difficult; her husband didn’t understand that the wife could need something more. They didn’t speak about a theatre; they didn't speak about his work. She was allowed to leave the house only once a week. Her husband was against her intention to become an actress, he was against a theatre. On October 12, 1933 Vivien gave a birth to her daughter Susan Holman, they called her Toropyzhka.
She was born on November 5, 1913 in Dargiling, near the Himalayan Mountains. She was named as Vivien Mary Hartley.
The actress Vivien Leigh lived 53 years, thirty of them she spent on the stage and in the cinema, she played 32 roles on the stage and 19 on the screen. She got 2 “Oscars” in Hollywood (the first - for “Gone with the Wind”, the second – for “The Tram “Desire”) and 1 “Tony” on Broadway.
In 1931Vivien finished her education at schools and decided to enter the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts
Vivien loved her theatre. A stage was a place where she felt alive and strong. She was a queen on the stage and did everything she wanted. She loved to be in the theatre, look through the mail, put on make-up, dress and think about the performance. She loved everybody who worked with her: on the stage and behind the curtains.
Vivien dreamt about the role of Scarlet in the film “Gone with the wind”. She read much about Margaret Mitchell, the author of the novel. And at last she got the best role of a year. Her partner was Clark Geible, one of the most popular Hollywood actors. Vivien got her first “Oscar” for the best role in this film on the 28 of February 1940.
In a year Vivien continued to attend film studio. And soon in 1934 she played her first role – a schoolgirl in the film “Things Are Looking Up”. In 1935 Vivien was proposed to perform in Ashley Duck's play “The Mask of Goodness”. Sydney Carroll, the greatest English producer, staged the play in the “Ambassadors” theatre.
On July 7, 1967 the brilliant English actress Vivien Leigh- died. She was a much unsurpassed actress in the cinema and a mighty individuality on the stage. She was young in sole and a great actress in all times.
In 1920 at the age of 6 little Vivien was sent to the monastic school in Roehampton. As she was the least in the school, she used the protection оf nuns and girlfriends. She was merry and sociable and everybody loved her. Every year amateur performances were staged in Roehampton and Vivien played some small roles. Then she was asked to play Zamorish in Shakespeare's “The Dream in the Summer Night.” At school Vivien studied drama and dancing with great pleasure. She was a good storyteller and a leader. Her stories were listened with a great interest.
