Every modern person will be happy to have a rest near the sea or sightseeing.I'm not a kind of a person who travels a lot. But I can understand the culture of other countries reading novels and fairy-tales. Purpose of statement:The purpose of the study is to explainhow literature can help us to understand the culture, traditions and customs of other countries.Object of research- reading as a kind of travellingSubject of research - the British and Russian novels and fairy tales.Research methods: observation, comparison and analysis.Research questions:The research questions in the study are presented as follows:How can we travel reading Russian and Britain books?What are the similarities and differences between two cultures? First of all, I MUST tell you about blockbuster like Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia, by American author Elizabeth Gilbert.It is a memoir about her emotional breakdown and subsequent healing process.She needed help and found it only on another continent, in another country.She found HERSELF there! I literally felt her impressions, felt her emotions. “On the Road”, a novel by American writer Jack Kerouac, based on the travels of Kerouac and his friends across America.The travels of Dean Moriarty and Sal Paradise are a celebration of two of the country’s greatest inventions: jazz and the roaring, big-engined automobile.This story is really moved me to the USA, I saw its culture, its people and I was astonished because of all of this! Bill Bryson “I'm a Stranger Here Myself: Notes on Returning to America after Twenty Years Away”.After living in Britain for two decades, Bill Bryson has recently moved back to the United States with his English wife and four children.It is a book filled with historical scenes of one man's attempt to reacquaint himself with his own country, but it is also an extended if at times bemused love letter to the homeland he has returned to after twenty years away. Our country is large and mighty too! If I hear ‘Russian writer' I always think about our legendary writer called Alexander Pushkin.I hope everyone knows about his exile in Mikhailovskoe.Even there he made amazing works! Anyway, we can see large difference between his works, which he made at home, and works, made in Mikhailovskoe.We could feel all his emotions after leaving his own city and home! Studying English, I could not pay special attention to the The characters of the British fairy tales are as much similar to our fairy tale characters as they are different from them. From literary tales I really liked " The Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Graham.Its characters — a delicate Rat, an inquisitive Mole, Badger and a wise frivolous frog — Toad lead profound and, at the same time, amusing discourse on life, solve current problems and get into the incredible adventure to follow which is a real pleasure.When I'm bored or sad, I read a couple of pages and relax the soul in a carefree world of childhood. Folk tales carry the history, knowledge, believes, and morals of a people for centuries before their societies develop literature. Russian stories are more likely to be filled with things people see every day than with fantasy creatures. We would like to compare Russian tale “Masha and three bears”, and Britain tale “Goldilocks and three bears”. Doesn’t matter, what age are you, you can always read fairy-tales and find there very interesting things, which you couldn’t see in the childhood!
