William Shakespeare On April 23, 1564 a son, William, was born to John and Mary Shakespeare in Stratford-upon-Avon. Shakespeare’s birthplace in Henley Street.John Shakespeare lived and kept his shop in this house. His eight children were born here. His father was a glove-maker.Mother was the daughter of a farmer.William had quite a good education. There he learned to love reading. While still a teenager, William married Anne Hathway. But William’s mother not wanted him to marry: Will was only eighteen.They have three children: Susannah, the eldest, then twins – Hamnet and Judith. In 1587 Shakespeare went to work in London, leaving Anne and children at home. William began to act and to write plays and soon became an important member of a well-know acting company. In 1613 he stopped writing and went to live in Stratford with his family.Shakespeare was buried in Holy Trinity Church.It’s interesting that he died on his birthday,23 April, 1616.
