Mother`s Day in England Every country and every nation has own traditions and customs.It’s very important to know traditions and customs of different people. I’ll help you to know more about the history and life of different nations and countries.One cannot speak about England without speaking about its traditions and customs. They are very important in the life of English people. Englishmen are proud of their traditions and carefully keep them up. The English have a custom of celebrating Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is usually in March on one of the Sunday. This is a holiday for English women.On that day people visit their mothers and give them some small presents and flowers. If they can’t do that they send their mothers a “Mother’s Day card”.On that day all the people in the family want their mother to have as little work to do about the house as possible or do no work at all. They try to help her in any way they can: they help her with the meals and washing up. They try to make it a day off for their mother Mother’s Day was first proclaimed a national holiday by President Woodrow Wilson in 1915.The idea of honouring mothers on a special day started with Ann Jarvis (West Virginia), who chose the second Sunday in May. On this day many people visit their mother’s grave side and dedicate the day to their mother’s memory.On this day children give thanks for the support, love, care their mothers and grandmothers. Giving cards and gifts is also a tradition.They prepare decorated boxes, pictures and the “mother-ring”, a ring set with the birthstones of each of the members of the family.When they cant visit their mothers they send mothers different postcards or make a phone calls them or special delivery of flowers in order to say “I love you” to those who gave them life. Mother`s Day in the USA The 8th of March in Russia There are many holidays which are celebrated in Russia too. But I want to tell you about. On the 8th of March Russian women went to the demonstration the 8th March in Petersburg. The began to fight for their rights. In 1918 Klara Zetkin proclaimed this day as the women’s day in Russia. Since 1918 we began to celebrate the 8th of March as women’s day.The 8th of March is one of the most important holidays in Russia. Each family celebrates this spring holiday. In the morning men go to the shops to buy some flowers and gifts.On this day all Russian men congratulate their mothers, wives, daughters, grandmothers, girls. They give them spring flowers and presents. They try to clean flats and cook a holiday dinner. Sons help their fathers too! They make a cake, lay the table and wash dishes after holiday dinner.We celebrate this holiday at school too. We congratulate our teachers and girls. Give them small presents with saying “We love you”. American people celebrate Women’s Day in May.President Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day in 1915.English people celebrate Women’s Day in March.
