Meals in Britain Traditionally English people have three meals a day:breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is served in the morning. Some time ago people had cereal, eggs and bacon, sausages,tomatoes for breakfast. Today the British also have cornflakes, toastswith marmalade, juice and yogurt with a cup of tea or coffee.
Lunch is a light meal. Most people have no time to go back home for lunch so they eat at school, cafes, pubs or restaurants. For lunch they have soup, meat, potato.British people drink tea at any time of the day, but traditional time is 5 o’clock. They like tea with milk.
The main meal is dinner, which is usually between 6 and 7 in the evening. A typical evening meal is a meat dish with vegetables and dessert.

Step 2Slice the halved potatoes slices. Stack the slices and cut them into to wide batons. Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water right after you cut them
Step 3Heat about 4 inches oil in a cast-iron pot or Dutch oven over medium heat
Step 4Pour the water from the potatoes and drain them on a plate lined with a couple of layers of paper towels.
Step 5Fry the potatoes about 3 minutes. Transfer the potatoes to a baking sheet lined with paper towels to drain.
Step 6Let the potatoes and oil cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Fry the potatoes again until golden brown and crisp, about 2 to 3 minutes
FishStep 1:Sift flour into a mixing bowl along with a salt. Whisk an equal volume of ice-cold lager into the flour.
Step 2Chill the batter in the fridge for 30 minutes. Cod fillets dry with paper towels and season them to taste with salt. Dredge the fillets in flour and set them aside.
Step 3Hold the first fillet by its tip and dip it in the batter. Hold the fillet above the bowl so the excess batter drains off.
Step 4Lower the fillet into the oil slowly. Dip the next fillet in the batter and lower it in the oil as you did the first
Step 5Cook the fillets until golden brown, about 8 or 9 minutes. Drain the fish on a plate lined with paper towels. While you finish frying the fillets, reheat the chips in a 200-F oven for about 5 minutes
Step 6Serve the fish and chips with sauce.
