Introduction I am interested in entertaining people, in bringing pleasure, particularly laughter, to others, rather than ‘expressing’ myself with obscure creative impressions”.Walt Disney. My name’s Olga and my name is Dasha. We want to write a book about Walt Disney. Walt Disney is a legend; a folk hero of the 20th century. His worldwide popularity was based upon the ideals which his name represents: imagination, optimism, creation, and self-made success in the American tradition. He brought us closer to the future, while telling us of the past, it is certain, that there will never be such as great man, as Walt Disney. When our teacher asked us one day “Who changed the world?” we understood that that man might be really a very important person. We remembered several names. There were Peter the Great, Christopher Columbus, George Washington among them, But then we decided that it might be Walt Disney, So Walt Disney is the man who changed the world. He presented us a fairy tale, a dream, an unreal world in which his characters lived. We read a lot about Walt Disney. He had an interesting biography. We know that he delivered newspapers and did it every morning at 3.30 a.m. For us it is difficult to get up early in the morning even to go to school. But Walt Disney had to work to make money for his family. Chronology: Walt Disney1901: Born1923: Produced his first cartoon series, “Alice in Cartoonland.”1928: Created Mickey Mouse.1937: Produced first great critical and financial success, Snow White and Seven Dwarfs.1941: Began making training and instructional films for the armed forces.1954: Appearance of the television show, Disneyland.1954: Received four Academy Awards.1955: Opened Disneyland theme park.1966: Died. Our book consists of several chapters; chapter 1- Childhood, chapter 2 - Career, chapter 3 - Cartoons, chapter 4- Disneyland. Chapter 1 Childhood I’m Olga. I’m the author of chapter1.Long- long ago there lived an unusual man. He was that man whose name in some years would become famous all over the world. I am going to tell you about Walt Disney/’s childhood.Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago Illinois, to his father Elias Disney, and mother Flora Call Disney. Walt was one of five children, four boys and girl. After Walt’s birth, the Disney family moved to Marceline Missouri, Walt lived most of his childhood hereWalt had very early interests in art, he would often sell drawings to neighbors to make extra money. He pursed his art career, by studying art and photography by going to McKinley High School in Chicago.Walt began to love, and appreciate nature and wildlife, and family and community, which were a large part agrarian living. Though his father could be quite stern, and often there was little money, Walt was encouraged by his mother, and older brother, Roy to pursue his talents. Walt Disney Chapter 2 Career I’m Dasha. My chapter 2 will tell you about Walt Disney’s career. In the summer of 1910 Walt Disney with his family moved to Kansas City His father became even more tyrannical. All year round Walt and his brother Roy were dragged out of their beds at 3.30 in the morning. They delivered newspapers. Walt also got a job in a candy store during the noon recess from school.By 1922, Disney had set up his first small cartoon-production company in Kansas City with Ub Iwerks, whose drawing ability and technical inventiveness were prime factors in Disney’s eventual success. Their business soon failed, though, and Disney took a job with an ad service that made cartoon advertisements to be shown between movies at the local theater.By about 1927, Disney began looking for a new approach to his cartoons and a new character.Once Walt returned form France, he began to pursue a career in commercial art. He started a small company called Laugh-O-Grams, Which headed to Hollywood to start anew. After making a success of his “Alice Comedies”, Walt became a recognized Hollywood figure. On July 13, 1925, Walt married one of his first employees, Lillian Bounds, in LewistonЮ Idaho.Later on they would be blessed with two daughters, Diane and Sharon. Chapter 3 Cartoons Now it is my turn. My chapter 3 is called “Cartoons”Walt Disney came up with a mouse character called Mortimer, but his wife Lilly thought the name was too stiff and convinced Disney to go with Mickey instead. Mickey Mouse came to life in 1928, after seeing the first sound movie, The Jazz Singer, Disney decided to make the first all-sound, talking-and-music cartoon, with Mickey Mouse starring as “Steamboat Willie.”By 1936, eight years later, critics and fans alike agreed that Mickey Mouse was the most recognized figure in the world. Songs were written about him. Watches had his face on them. He could be found everywhere. Disney was called “a genius. In 1932, the production entitled Flowers and Trees (the first color cartoon) won Walt the first of his studio’s Academy Awards. In 1937, he released The Old Mill, the first short subject to utilize the multi-plane camera technique. On December 21, 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-Length animated musical feature, premiered at the unheard cost of $1,499,000 during the depths of the Depression, the film is still considered one of the great feats and imperishable monuments of the motion picture industry. During the next five years, Walt Disney Studios completed other full-length animated classics such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi. During this time, Disney studios launched other successful cartoon characters, including Donald Duck and Pluto. Although he had stopped actually drawing the cartoons himself by 1927, and relied on a staff of animators to implement his ideas, Disney himself was the voice of Mickey Mouse in all the cartoons from 1928 to 1946. Disney’s cartoons, both short and full-length features, won many awards. During the 1930s, the Disney cartoons were a phenomenon of worldwide success. This success led to the establishment of immensely profitable, Disney-controlled, sidelines in advertising, and franchised goods, which helped shape popular tastes for nearly 40 years. 4 Cartoons Cartoons Chapter 4 “Disneyland” And the fourth chapter (the last but not the least) is named “Disneyland”Walt Disney said “I don’t want the public to seethe world they live in while they’re in the Park (Disneyland). I want to feel they’re in another world.”Walt Disney’s dream of a clean, and organized amusement park, came true, as Disneyland Park opened in 1955. Walt also became a television pioneer, Disney began television production in 1954, and was among the first to present full-color programming with his Wonderful World of Color in 1961.Disney also began to develop his famous Disneyland theme parks, the first opening in 1957 in Anaheim, California. Disney World, in Orlando, Florida, was not completed until after his death, in 1971. Disney’s vision was to interconnect all his many business ventures so that one would help the other; in other words, seeing his work on TV would cause people to want to go to Disneyland, and going to Disneyland would cause people to want to see family-oriented Disney movies. Today Disneyland parks are present in California (1955), Florida (1971), Japan (1983 Paris (1992) and Hong Kong (2005}. Disneyland Conclusion. Every man was a child. You know that all the children are fond of adventures. His films and cartoons are full of different characters, magic actions, traveling and wildlife. During the TV shows, different holidays and celebrations the Walt Disney’s characters are present. They are really good friends for all of us. They are from the “wonderland” or “fantasyland”. They teach us to be happy. We realize that we must believe in kindness, we must believe in fairies, we must believe in friendship, we must help each other. And one day the world will become a better place. We’d like to finish our book with Walt Disney’s words “The era we are living in today is a dream coming true.” “The era we are living in today is a dream coming true.” What happened in 1901? 1928? 1955? The first Disneyland was opened. Walt Disney was born. Mickey Mouse came to life. Friday. The 1st of December. Add some cheer to the atmosphere. Proverb. English Party! English Party!
