Bonfire Night

On November 5,1605, a man called Guy Fawkes planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament where the king James 1st was to open Parliament on that day. But Guy Fawkes was unable to realize his plan and was caught and later, hanged. The British still remember that Guy Fawkes' Night. It is another name for this holiday. Bonfire Night.  (Ночь костра)
This day one can see children with figures, made of sacks and straw and dressed in old clothes. On November 5th, children put their figures on the bonfire, burn them, and light their fireworks.
In England the "Bonfire Night" customary to invite guests to the gala dinner of the hostess prepares some of their specialty, but they bring with them sweets or drinks. The traditional dish of the festival is bangers and mash - potato puree with thick sausages, fried on a grill. But the highlight of the program is burning effigies of guy Fawkes. A few days before the holiday, the children do effigy of guy Fawkes in the natural size of the old-clothes, stuffed with straw and Newspapers. In the course of November 5, they are a Scarecrow on the streets, shouting "Pennies for the Guy!" and collecting money.
On the southern coast of the Thames in the London park of Bitters the huge fire every year is kindled, to look on which thousands people come. Do big fires on which effigies are burned in the evening, start fireworks and bake potato and chestnuts on fire coals. There is also other food on the date of Guy Fox - chicken legs of a barbecue with the cabbage and carrot coleslaw salad which has been dressed with mayonnaise, and for a dessert apples toffee with syrup of which do toffees. Children decorate the person with coal "for a camouflage" and happily run round a fire, without suspecting about the real mission of this holiday.
Night fires still rapidly celebrated in many regions of modern Britain, as well as in New Zealand and the English part of Canada.
