Looking through these poems, it is possible to judge that his life in captivity was very severe. He could take out all physical sufferings, but the separation from his family, the homeland was for him unbearable.
«There is a life behind the death.Life in consciousness, in memory of people» Musa Dzhalil
Before DeathThe road of righteous struggle I trodTo reach my goal I failedMy foes have severed with a hot Bullet the thread of fate…My living heart a needle smites,Blood runs in a weak jet.I see my shirt that once was whiteIn scarlet now and wet.I do not grieve. To you, my friends,True friendship do I wow,My shirt that once was snow-whiteWith bloody flowers now.Pray! Hang it on a willow boughFor everyone, to view,There let it blow to scare the foeAnd remember me to you! Musa Dzhalil Translation by Dmitry Priyatkin
