Description«The Lady of Shalott» is one of the most popular paintings by John William Waterhouse . It was written in 1888 and was dedicated to Alfred Tennyson’s poem «The Lady of Shalott».It is a portrait of a young girl who is swimming on a boat. At the end of the poem Elaine dies of unrequited love.Picture was painted in dark and muted tones. The landscape was painted carelessly to pay extra attention to the heroine.
