ROYAL FAMILY: WEDDING OF PRINCE WILLIAM, DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE,
AND CATHERINE MIDDLETON

Мероприятие «Royal Family: Wedding of prince William, duke of Cambridge, and Catherine Middleton» - один из вариантов организации досуга и внеклассной деятельности по английскому языку в школах, гимназиях и лицеях. Данная разработка предназначена для учащихся 10-11 классов. Она может быть также отнесена к месячнику, декаде английского языка в школе. Мероприятие сопровождается фильмом, сделанным учащимися по материалам Интернета (педагогическая технология медиаобразования), что, безусловно, позволяет повысить мотивацию, иноязычную компетенцию обучающихся, их познавательную активность, развить универсальные учебные действия обучающихся.
Для этого учащиеся собирают материал по теме, обрабатывают его и подготавливают для выступления. В конце мероприятия необходимо дать заключение и подвести итоги, например, ответить на вопрос: «Для чего мы изучаем английский язык?» (рефлексия).
Проведение подобных мероприятий позволяет обеспечить довольно высокий уровень усвоения реалий, национально-специфической информации и служит стимулом к дальнейшему расширению знаний лингвострановедческого характера и диалогу культур.

Задачи:
Развитие умения работать в коллективе и принимать совместное решение; воспитывать положительные личностные качества учащихся (ответственность, доброжелательность, чувство взаимопомощи); развивать и тренировать внимание, память, мышление и творческие способности; формирование познавательного интереса обучающихся; активизация навыков монологической и диалогической речи; знакомство с традициями и обычаями стран изучаемого языка.
Оборудование: компьютер, мультимедийный проектор, экран.
1. Приветствие.
Teacher: Good morning, dear friends! Good morning, our guests!
I am very glad to see you again. How are you? I hope you are fine. What are we going to do today? Today we have an unusual lesson. And how do you think, what shall we speak today about? We would like to tell you about the most anticipated wedding of the century (or perhaps, of our time) – about the wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine Middleton. So, our theme is called “ROYAL WEDDING”.

St 1: The most anticipated wedding of the century took place on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London. This tale of love involves a Prince (Prince William) and a commoner (Kate Middleton) who fell in love while away at college. The couple dated off and on for eight years before William proposed to Kate while they were in Kenya, on holiday.
St 2: Prince William, the eldest son of Charles, Prince of Wales, first met Catherine "Kate" Middleton in 2001, when both were studying at the University of St Andrews.
Their engagement on 20 October 2010 was announced on 16 November 2010. The build-up to the wedding and the occasion itself attracted much media attention, with the service being broadcast live around the world, and being compared and contrasted in many ways with the 1981 marriage of William's parents, Charles, Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer. Much of the attention focused on Kate Middleton's status as a commoner (i.e. not a part of the aristocracy) marrying into royalty.
St 3: As Prince William was not the heir apparent to the throne, the wedding was not a full state occasion and many details were left to the couple to decide, such as much of the guest list of about 1,900.
It was a public holiday in the United Kingdom and featured many ceremonial aspects, including use of the state carriages and roles for the Foot Guards and Household Cavalry. Hours before the service, the Queen conferred upon William the titles Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus.
Upon her marriage, Middleton therefore became Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge. The ceremony was attended by most of the Royal Family, as well as many foreign royals, diplomats, and the couple's chosen personal guests.
St 4: Middleton wore a white dress by British designer Sarah Burton, as well as a tiara lent to her by the Queen. Prince William wore the uniform of his honorary rank of Colonel of the Irish Guards. William's best man was his brother, Prince Harry, while the bride's sister, Pippa, acted as her maid of honour.
St 5: The wedding ceremony began at 11:00 am. John Robert Hall, the Dean of Westminster, conducted the service, with Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, conducting the marriage ceremony itself and Richard Chartres, the Bishop of London, giving the sermon. A reading was given by the bride's brother, James.
St 6: After the ceremony, the newly married couple travelled in procession to Buckingham Palace for the traditional appearance on the balcony and a flypast before crowds assembled in The Mall. Later the Prince drove his Duchess the short distance to Clarence House in his father's classic Aston Martin DB6 Volante.
St 7: Over 5000 street parties were held to mark the Royal wedding throughout the United Kingdom and one million people lined the route between Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. In the United Kingdom TV audiences peaked at 26.3 million viewers with a total of 36.7 million watching part of the coverage. The ceremony was viewed live by tens of millions more around the world including 72 million on the YouTube Royal Channel.
St 8: Cost. It was also announced that the costs of the wedding itself would be met by the Royal Family and the Middletons themselves, while the costs of security and transport would be covered by the British treasury. The couple also asked that donations be made to charities in place of traditional wedding gifts; to that end, they established The Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund, which focuses on assisting charities such as the New Zealand Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and the Zoological Society of London.
The cost of the wedding was reportedly £20 million. The Australian newspaper Herald Sun estimated A$32 million for security and A$800,000 for flowers.
St 9: Wedding attire. Bride. For the customary bridal themes of "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue", Middleton's gown had the traditional Carrick across lace appointments (the "old"), diamond earrings given by her parents (the "new"), the Queen's tiara (the "borrowed"), and a blue ribbon sewn into the bodice (the "blue"). The shoes were also from Alexander McQueen and had a lace pattern matching the dress with appliques made by the Royal School of Needlework.
St 10: The bride's shield-shaped wired bouquet, designed by Derek Connolly, contained myrtle, Lily of the Valley, Sweet William and hyacinth.
Middleton's hair was styled in loose curls for the occasion by hair dresser James Pryce of the Richard Ward Salon. She received private make-up lessons from Arabella Preston.
St 1: Prince William wore an Irish Guards mounted officer's uniform in Guard of Honour Order with a forage cap, rather than the bearskin hat. As a serving Royal Air Force flight lieutenant who also held the equivalent Royal Navy rank of lieutenant and Army rank of captain in the Blues and Royals, William could have chosen to wear the uniform of any of these junior officer ranks.
However, as he had been appointed colonel of the Irish Guards on 10 February 2011, he chose instead to wear the full dress uniform of that regiment. As a Knight of the Order of the Garter, he wore the order's blue riband, to which were affixed his RAF wings and Golden Jubilee Medal. The uniform was made and fitted by Kashket and Partners. William did not wear a sword as he was entering a church.
St 2: The wedding ring of Catherine is made from Welsh gold. The ring was created by the royal warrant holder Wartski, a company with roots in Bangor, Gwynedd, north Wales. Since 1923, it has been a tradition in the royal family to use Welsh gold for the wedding ring of the bride.
St 3: The wedding cake had a strong British floral theme, using elements of the Joseph Lambeth technique. It was an eight-tiered traditional fruit cake decorated with cream and white icing and 900 sugar paste flowers.
St 4: The wedding was widely broadcast on television, internet, and radio in up to 180 countries.
The couple ultimately decided to honeymoon for 10 days on a secluded villa on a private island in the Seychelles. The length of the honeymoon was limited by William's RAF duties and the couple's official scheduled tour to Canada and the United States.

3. Conclusion
St 1: This wedding became the grandest royal event since Prince Charles wed Princess Di in 1981. I think the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton can be called "the wedding of the century" as the ceremony was viewed live by tens of millions more around the world including 72 million on the YouTube Royal Channel. Million people worldwide watched on television, spellbound by the fairytale.
St 2: It was the beautiful ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London about one year ago! There were so many picture-perfect moments, from the star-studded guest list and the bride's gorgeous gown to the carriage processional and two balcony kisses.
St 3: The more we re-watch the video of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding, the more impressed we are by the sheer beauty, majesty and love imbued in the event, and we just know that it's all because of the spirit of Princess Diana.
St 4: What a beautiful event! The cathedral, the dresses, the hats, the processions, carriages, the horses, the colors, the uniforms! What a wonderful day for them and a little bit of grace and dignity for us. They seem genuinely happy together and well matched. We loved it. The best of luck to them!
St 5: It was a beautiful wedding. Everyone so happy. Especially, the bride and groom! We all needed this among all the turmoil in this world and with in our country. We thanked the royal couple for sharing their happy day with us. Lovely, just lovely!
Teacher: In conclusion, I would like to say, that some people had tears in their eyes as they watched the fly-past, with "amazing" a common response when asked about the day's events.
As one American spectator put it, "No-one does pageantry like the British - you can't help being infected by the energy and emotion."
Teacher: I’d like to tell you that the English language is very useful. The English language is very important. Why do you study English?
St 1: I study English because it’s very interesting and closely connected with my feature profession. In 2 years I shall finish my school and I have to decide what occupation to choose. I enjoy learning English and want to know more about life, events and traditions of Great Britain. I want to be an interpreter.
St 2: I want to know English excellent. And I think, nowadays, it's impossible to do without foreign languages because of expanding economic, cultural ties of our country with other countries of the world.
St 3: Besides, one can't be a learned and well-educated person if he doesn't know at least one foreign language. As for me, I'd like to read English and American Literature, to understand it without resorting to anybody's help.
St 4: I study English, because I want to read English books of great writers in origin. I want to communicate with people from different countries, I want to understand their culture and traditions.
St 5: I like to travel. Speaking English I can travel anywhere, because more than 1 billion people speak English.
Teacher: I`m pleased with your work at the lesson today. I liked it very much. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Thank you for your work. Thank you everybody. See you later! The lesson is over. Good-bye friends! See you soon!
