Тексты страноведческого характера занимают сегодня все большее место в процессе обучения иностранным языкам. Благодаря таким текстам учащиеся знакомятся с реалиями страны изучаемого языка, получают дополнительные знания в области географии, образования, культуры и т. д. Содержание страноведческих текстов должно быть значимым для школьников, иметь опийную новизну, будь то общие сведения об образовательных учреждениях, о государственном устройстве, о детских и юношеских организациях страны изучаемого языка или об особенностях речевого поведения и этикета. Важным звеном в процессе обучения является контроль понимания прочитанного.Формы контроля могут быть как традиционными (например: ответы на вопросы по содержанию текста, нахождение на географической карте географических названий, имеющихся в тексте, краткий пересказ текста и др.), так и нетрадиционными (к таким формам контроля относят прежде всего тест). Выполнение теста занимает немного времени и позволяет проверить одновременно всех учащихся класса, которые поставлены в равные условия, т. е. работают в одно и то же время с одинаковым по объему и сложности материалом.
Тест, как считает В. А. Коккота, имеет несколько названий: «тест», «тестовая контрольная работа», «квиз>> (см.: Коккота В. А. Лингводидактическое тестирование.— М., 1989). Алгоритм работы с квизом заключается в следующем:
1-й этап — осуществление фронтального контроля посредством письменного выполнения заданий квиза символами (например: la, 2Ь, Зс и т. д.);
2-й этап — предъявление ключа и проверка работ самими учащимися с последующим выставлением оценок (9 — 10 правильных ответов — оценка «5», 7 — 8 правильных ответов — оценка «4», 5 — 6 правильных ответов — оценка «3»);
3-й этап — высказывания 2 — 3 учащихся в форме микромонолога с использованием квиза в качестве опорного сигнала или без такового.
